The 2017 edition has been distributed as an insert in all News Limited papers across Qld, metro Sydney and Melbourne.
The online version recieved over 100,000 views in the first 24 hours.
The Tropical Coast region features in a 2 page spread on pages 22-23 (this displays as pages 40-41 in the online version). The inclusion of the Tropical Coast region in this publication (at no cost to the region) is thanks to the considerable and ongoing efforts of Tropical Coast Tourism Chairman, Mark Evans, at developing a good working relationship with Townsville Enterprise Limited.
The Tropical Coast region is almost entirely a drive market - there are 800,000 non-commercial vehicle movements through the region each year. The three day Townsville to Cairns itinerary in the TNQ Insider's Guide is obviously just a suggested timetable and tourists using the guide are free to stay longer and explore other attractions not specifically mentioned. The first hurdle for many operators in the Tropical Coast region is to get travellers to turn off the Bruce Highway and come into the towns where the operators are. This guide gives them the incentive to travel north via Mission Beach and the Canecutter Way - it is then up to the individual businesses and towns to present themselves as friendly and enticing to encourage the travellers to spend longer on the Tropical Coast.
Customer service is key - without exemplary customer service, the battle for the traveler's custom is lost before it begins.
The inclusion of the Tropical Coast is a huge free kick for the region and it is now up to the operators in the region to leverage and capitalise on it.
