Get ready to celebrate the glitz and glamour of the roaring 20s on the Cassowary Coast at the Tropical Art Deco Weekend.
This boutique weekend showcases one of Australia’s only intact Art Deco streetscapes in a region rich in tropical natural assets.
Whether it’s sophisticated soirees, dining experiences at our finest restaurants, alluring fashion, vintage car displays, world-class jazz performances or taking in the region’s fascinating stories and Art Deco history, there's a lot to discover at the Tropical Art Deco Weekend.
The weekend’s party commences on Saturday with a Jazz and Champagne Soiree at the Queens Hotel in Innisfail.
Entertainment on the night is provided by Chris Lloyds, renowned swing jazz artist, who recently packed the Queensland Performing Arts Complex in Brisbane, backed by the Australian Symphony Orchestra.
Cassowary Coast Mayor John Kremastos said the events are great way to boost the local economy.
“We really see art deco in the region as a great tool for economic activation for our local businesses with an expectation that it will bring people from afar,” said Cr Kremastos.
“We hope that this event motivates other business owners to bolster future art deco events in the community which in turn will help to showcase our region and our strong art deco heritage.
“The night is all about the fun, sounds, and fashion of the period, and we are thrilled to kick the weekend off with such a grand event.”
Sunday will prove a little more genteel, but invigorating, with an Art deco Walk and town history talk. The mood will be set with a jazz quartet playing from the balcony of the Shire Hall before the walkers amble for a guided tour of the Innisfail CBD led by the Innisfail & District Historical Society.
