Majestic mountain ranges flanked by canefields, sprawling beaches and mesmerizing ocean views make up the Great Green Way between Cairns and Townsville. You are privy to North Queensland's diverse wildlife; nature flourishes along the drive which spans from the edge of Cairns at Gordonvale, through to Townsville's twin city of Thuringowa. The Great Green Way encompasses more than 25 tropical islands, more than 12 National Parks and is flanked by World Heritage listed Wet Tropics rainforest on one side and the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef on the other.

Starting south, the Great Green Way travels through Thuringowa, Hinchinbrook, Cardwell and Johnstone Shires, finishing in Cairns. The picturesque drive features enticing natural attributes and fun-filled activities at the major stops along the way, including Paluma, Ingham, Cardwell, Tully, Mission Beach, Innisfail, Babinda and finishing in Gordonvale. You are spoilt for choice for accommodation along the way, from hotels to motels, bed and breakfast style accommodation to camping facilities, there is something for everyone.

The Great Green Way is your best chance to experience the tropics. Fly into Townsville or Cairns, hire a car and spend a week traveling your way through the rainforest and hinterlands, visiting the region's clean sandy beaches and spend days exploring the untouched islands. The region is rich in history and its natural attributes set it apart. You are close to the oldest living rainforest in the world and moments from the Great Barrier Reef with some of the most spectacular marine life imaginable. You can choose the relaxing nature bound route of rainforest walks, visits to the reef and indulge in the culture of tropical North Queensland or take advantage of the various activities available such as whitewater rafting and sky diving.
